Amsterdam: Photo tips?

Anyone been to Amsterdam, and / or The Hague?

I'm off there next week, and have 1 free day to wander. Any picturesque areas I must go within the city centres?

I have a photo tip for Amsterdam - don't take any pictures of the ladies in the windows, or you will find yourself discussing your options with their friends.

The area is most definitely worth a stroll at around sunset though!

Hang on to your camera and keep your bags locked when in the city.

The zoo is excellent as are the markets. There are lots of lovely old bridges and cafes along the canals to see. (Cafes that sell coffee, not the other stuff)

you can't take pictures of the lovely girls in the windows at the red light district otherwise the security guards or the girls themselves get agro

but there are heaps of picture takign opps note that all the buildings lean forward a little somethign to do with hoisting furniture into windows or something
so i think taking pics of the slanted buildings are more interesting than the girls

Actually, taking photo's of the ladies in the windows is a very common occurrence and rarely leads to a "discussion". There is something profoundly amusing (to me) about coach loads of Germans in lederhosen marching in single file behind their tour guides around the canals of Amsterdam whilst lookng at the girls. The red light district of Amsterdam is one of the most unusual tourist tours that I've been on. There is nothing sleazy about it either, just a bizarre tourist experience frequented by as many women as men. By day, the flower market is probably the only "must do". Pick other things as your preferences dictate.

Anyway, be careful. I believe Amsterdam is the pick pocket capital of Europe. Zipped pockets, a secure grip on belongings and vigilence is mandatory.

Go to Den Haag. Go to the town square at lunchtime, have a beer in one of the outdoor cafes, look at the palaces, go around the corner and into the Town hall. Go down to the old book market during the afternoon. The difference between the old brick on cobbled streets to the glass of the town hall is almost jarring. I used to work in the Ministry of Defence just between the palace and the town hall and I didn't use a camera in the 8 months I was there.
