Eastern Suburbs Mini-Meet

Postby PlatinumWeaver on Tue Dec 21, 2004 3:24 pm

There are a few of us out towards knox/dandenong way.
We obviously don't have the numbers for a large-scale meet, but how about coffee or something?

Just an idea..

I was thinking sometime between X-mas and new years, I know most people generally have some time off..

As for where.. no idea.. is this a camera'd event or just coffee/tea...

I live in Newport but have family in the east so it would be good for me too. Just not on the 30th or 31st of Jan.

G'day,
I don't get much time-off over Xmas (sob, sob), but I'm in!

Spose after having five weeks off recently, I can't complain... But I'll whinge at work anyway ;-)

Camera play or just catch up and meet?

Cheers,
Mudder

G'day,
Gotta bugger off and do stuff, but just thought maybe if anyone has anything other than default stuff (say things like VR lenses, other toys etc.) maybe other guys who come along might like to have a quick play to see what they're like? I could bring an 80-400VR for example...

Just a thought...

Cheers,

I'd also be in for a gathering some time in January. I'll be O/S with family between Xmas and NY.

I'm very keen to see the 80-400 vr live in concert. I've already started sowing the seeds with the boss for one to take to the V8 Supercars in Shanghai in June 05.

Cheers

I'll have mine at Albert Park in March :)

And it'll probably be somewhere around Lygon St on the Saturday and Sunday nights of the GP weekend too.

I can't make this meet but will be ready to go in early Jan. Hope you guys have fun if you do get together.

Won't see me around for a while. We're off today to visit my parents in Qld and then fly out to Borneo for 2 weeks. See you in Jan!

G'day,

How's everyone for a mini-meet either Monday or Tuesday, assuming all have those days off?

If it's a small number that I can accomodate, I can throw a few reds on the bar at home :-)

Will have to act quick though as that's not far away...

G'day Skyva,
Welcome to the forum!
The mini-meet was fun, but there'll no doubt be others just around the corner... :-) Hopefully there'll be a more general one for the Melbourne members sometime in Jan as Greg mentioned, the mini-meet in Burwood East was more of an impromptu thing to meet some of the members "out that way"...

Check out the forum's first anniversary Maxi-meet in Sydney mid-year, now that is one not to miss! I'm amazed that this would be the first anniversary, judging by the feeling of maturity of the forum and the healthy population etc. Shows just how popular this forum is...

G'day,

Would many people be interested in booking a photo safari at the Werribee open plains zoo as a group? They run them Saturday and Sunday mornings around 09:30am. The ute we went around in fits about 8 people or so comfortably on the back... I'll call them and see what could be arranged as a group booking if anyone's interested.

I think it costs about $40-50 or so, might be a good scenario to try out various zooms etc??? Never know, a group might get a discount???

Just a thought...

Cheers,
Mudder PS. edited as I just realised maybe I should have posted this in the "Shooting and meeting ideas" forum... Whooops.

non-public D70 forum photo safari @ Werribee open plains zoo

Postby mudder on Mon Jan 10, 2005 3:39 pm

Ok all,
Here's the low-down on what I've been able to organise with the Werribee open plains zoo staff... I've been able to get a one-off, special deal for our D70 forum, no public involved!

I needed to give both them and myself plenty of advance notice so we could get numbers etc and also to work in with their business requirements etc... They are a business after-all...

How's about:
A late afternoon (5pm) photo safari for just ourselves, no minimum fee or number (they usually try to get at least 10 people on the ute but I'd like to restrict it to about 8 so it'll be comfortable with a heap of zoom lenses swinging around, normally there's quite a few P&S jobbies that don't take up room and swing around etc).
We only pay for those that go etc with a discount thrown in for good measure(!) amounting to $45.60 each.

Date = 5pm Sunday afternoon Feb 27th.

Maximum I'd recommend on the back of the one-tonner would be about 8 to to keep it comfortable with a plethora of zoom lenses swinging around etc... Especially considering those inconsiderate animals will usually only be on one side of the ute at a time ;-)

This is a **one-off, non-public affair** just for our D70 forum... I need to know reasonably firm numbers within the next week or so...

Anyone that's keen can PM me with their details and whether they're keen... The first 7 people who send a PM confirming they'd like to come will get in...

First-in, best dressed as they say... And many thanks go to the friendly Zoo rep who helped me organise this... A few of the "good" shots could perhaps be printed for them as a thank you... I'll arrange that if need be...

Cheers,
Mudder PS. edited as I forgot to include myself in the numbers (doh!) reduced the part about "the first 8 to PM me" to "the first 7 that PM me"...

Yep Greg had a great time. Feels like I've been away longer than 2 weeks which is a good thing. Luck was with us and we had some good guides and also saw lots of different animals. Most importantly I got to see orang-utans in the wild. Even better we saw 10 orangs in the wild in different places.

Was stung by something (didn't see it but sure felt it). Also fell over and now have some nice big wounds on my elbow to show for it. Most importantly I saved the camera and only cracked the fliter and not the lens! Managed to avoid being bitten by leeches although several times I found multiple leeches in my boots. Was all worth it though and will start going through my photos when we get back to Melbourne tomorrow night. Can't wait!

Sounds you would have had a ball... The bugs and scars will be your reminder of such a good fun time... Welcome back, hope it all went well and can't wait to see some pics of Orang's in the mist...

Glad your baby (D70) survived the trials of the trip :-)
