Please note that image critiquing is a matter of give and take: if you post images for critique, and you then expect to receive criticism, then it is also reasonable, fair and appropriate that, in return, you post your critique of the images of other members here as a matter of courtesy. So please do offer your critique of the images of others; your opinion is important, and will help everyone here enjoy their visit to far greater extent.

Also please note that, unless you state something to the contrary, other members might attempt to repost your image with their own post processing applied. We see this as an acceptable form of critique, but should you prefer that others not modify your work, this is perfectly ok, and you should state this, either within your post, or within your signature.

Images posted here should conform with the general forum guidelines. Image sizes should not exceed 950 pixels along the largest side (height or width) and typically no more than four images per post or thread.

Please also ensure that you have a meaningful location included in your profile. Please refer to the FAQ for details of what "meaningful" is.

Finally had the courage to upload some pics. Had my D70 for a fortnight so I'm still learning.

I had real difficulties getting lightning shots (filled my 2Gb card tonight and the only decent shot is the one shown here). Full gallery is at http://www.pixspot.com/index.php?cat=10025

GREAT first photos Stubbsy!! I was wondering how difficult it was to do in photoshop to black and white the background whilst keeping the subject in colour? Is it hard to describe or can you or anyone point me to a link that shows how to do this? I'd be very greatful! Well done though seriously, they are great shots! :)

Hi Stubbsy

The D70 was my first SLR/DSLR - it had a bit of a learning curve for me. It is great that you have uploaded some pics. I can recommend Thom Hogan's eBook on the D70 if you want to learn as much on the D70 as possible.

I really like your cat - is that a Burmese?

I like your lightning shot also.

Wow, great first lightning shot... That's amost Frankenstien'ish seems the house is like a lightning attractor...

I was wondering how difficult it was to do in photoshop to black and white the background whilst keeping the subject in colour? Is it hard to describe or can you or anyone point me to a link that shows how to do this?


I'm using Pohotoshop CS. Discovered this while playing around and it's easy:

    1. Open image (duh)
    2. Choose the color replacement tool (in the toolbox first column, 4th row - you may need to click & choose to change from healing tool)
    3. Use the colour picker to choose an appropriate colour (I chose a sepia-ish colour rather than grey)
    4. In the brush area at the top change to a nice big brush
    5. Use your mouse to paint away to your heart's content


If anything is unclear I can give more detail

Thanks - took about 800 to get that since I don't really know ho to do anything but point and shoot at present (although I did use click-click-click mode - not sure what it's called & too lazy to get out the manual!)

Sorry. It's the two coloured squares below the hand and the magnifying glass tools. The one you want is the one below the hand. Click it then choose a colour

Don't ask why cos I don't know - she was a friend's ex girlfriend's friend's cat who my friend brought with him when he came to live with me. When my friend moved to Sydney I inherited the cat. phew

Stubbsy PS Just discovered why my lightning shot had a strange blue tinge to it - I managed to leave the CP filter on my camera :oops:

Nice work Stubbsy. Lightning... the photographer's Holy Grail!
You did a great job but I understand the frustration and time taken to achieve it.
