Poraday - thumbs up!

Postby Geoff on Wed Mar 26, 2008 1:16 pm

Three cheers for Poraday in Bondi!!
I called up to ask about a problem I've had with my D200 + SB800 where the SB800 fires intermittently by itself whilst connected. I told him I need the camera for this weekend (this was a call I made yesterday). He (Peter) said if I brought it in first thing today (Wednesday) I'd have it back by Friday. Granted, this is a 'well known issue' with the D200 + SB800 but I was really impressed with the way Peter talked with me over the phone. When I took the equipment to the shop he was methodical, polite and friendly. The quote to fix it was an estimated $70-$80 which I was more than happy with.

Anyone considering a repair (that lives in Sydney) I'd go to Poroday well before I went to the big N for service/repairs etc.

Hope this helps.

Yes.

I was supposed to be working in Surry Hills today, and for the rest of the week. Today got changed to a 12:30 meeting, and that changed the schedule for the rest of the week.

I'm expecting a couple of meetings on Friday morning, but I'm home tomorrow.

Dan,

You don't know the half of it.

Fortunately, in my line of work, I can bill for taking a walk along the water's edge (thinking of solutions) and I can even bill while I'm asleep: you'd be surprised at how frequently a solution can be devised while sleeping.

Saying I can, though, doesn't mean that I do.

Gee Gary,
I thought I was doing OK getting paid to talk for a living these days.
Mind you I have been paid to spend time wandering around in the bush, nice work when you can get it I guess.

I like your fine print.

Thx for posting Geoff. I have the same issue too I believe. Reluctant to make a fuss cos the first time I experienced it was after using a non-OEM sync cord, and I thought the fitment of that might have caused something to come loose that subsequently caused the SB800 when attached directly to malfunction... and my use of non-genuine Nikon accessories might have implications on the warranty.

Chi,

I picked up the camera yesterday, all fixed for $80!
My camera was out of warranty and a grey issue, which Peter (from Poraday) was informed...still no hassles..I am really impressed.

fozzie sent me a link to this thread after i asked him if there was any nikon repairers in adelaide, my 12-24 didn't seem to focus properly after it was hit by a kiteboarder so i sent it to poraday and they found a damaged inner rear fixed ring and gave it a clean and a test, i paid $187 on thursday last week and it arrived tuesday, I AM VERY HAPPY WITH PORADAY

cheers rob
