Anyone used Kogan for a mobile phone? Thoughts?

Which one Cameron? My experience has been that a plan of the sorts is generally cheaper in the long run especially if it's a heavily used phone. I do feel annoyed towards the end of the plan 18 months because the newer version is then out...

Kogan phones are a grey import and as such are warranted by Kogan - but who cares after the new warranty legislation.

They are unlocked so can be used with any carrier.

Unlike Suren I prefer to (or did) buy the phone outright as I could then change it at anytime by not being on a 12/24 contract.

Just recently I have gone back to a contract. I have a Samsung Galaxy Nexus ($0 upfront) on a $29 plan with $450 included calls (rolls over for one month) and 2.25Gb of data which I thought was a pretty good deal. Plus all calls to my son, ex and her partner and any other Virgin Mobile user are FREE.

Chris, my contract with Optus has expired and it's time to give my old phone to the missus and update etc. Your $29 plan is with Virgin?

Yes, Virgin but I think that plan ended at the end of July - check their site for deals

I am usually plan based, ironically I was looking at the Samsung Galaxy Nexus ($359 from Kogan) which seems to have slipped out of alll the carrir plans except Vodafone. I am also on the Virgin $29 at the moment,, and was considering going to the BYO 29 (pay $19 with no lock in period) as I cannot get the Nexus on a plan. I was just wondering what everyone thought of Kogan as a company.....has anyone used Kogan before?

I am keen to stay with Virgin and the other choices are the Samsung Galaxy S2 or HTC One S (both on the $39 cap). Just on a side note.....I had a wonderful live chat session last night using their online help livechat facility (friendly, very helpful and willing to go that extra distance to get answers). I cannot say I enjoyed my phone conversation with them today though (rude, pushy and uninterested). Funny how two out sourced, off shore services can result to such different experiences.

I have bought 2 digital photo frames and a heater from them. All AOK. When bluray first started I bought the Kogan bluray player as it was one of the few that (at the time) could be converted to multi region blu ray. Since then I have moved onto the renowned Oppo brand.

My ex-wife has a Kogan LED TV for her caravan and has nothing but praise for it.

Overall, it’s like anything you buy in life it can either be good or bad and that’s from anyone, from Sony to Kogan.

Cameron - nothing to do with Virgin (I have nothing but praise for their telephone help) but I have had a couple of run ins recently with overseas call centres.

In one instance I had recourse to call the ombudsman and I said that I was not a racist to any nationality except for Australian companies that hide from their customers with O/S call centres.

Thanks Chris. Funnily enough, Optus rang me yesterday and I am now on the same plan (but BYO), at almost half the monthly price. Nice work. I suppose they didn't want me to churn to Telstra.

My belief is that the major suppliers/retailers condemn the likes of Kogan because of their low pricing.

I mean to say, $699 for a full HD 3D TV is pretty good pricing.

So Grry Hrvey get your finger out of your bum and stop downing other companies that know better how to perform modern business

I've ordered a Canon Speedlite 600EX-RT Flash from them on Tuesday $499 + $19 postage.
Retailers want around $800.
Still waiting to find out dispatch date :-(

UPDATE: phone arrived safely yesterday (with factory seal intact)

BUT
was found to be running developer software....needs to go back to Kogan. I called customer service who sent through a link to a simple online RA form. A return postage slip arrived today in my email. So sadly my phone is going to be back off to Kogan (in Melbourne) hopefully to be replaced.

So far so good (why is it always me who has trouble with this sort of thing??)

As long as it comes back soon I'm not too fussed, I wasn't keen to reflash it myself as it was really a DOA

Just to follow up, the phone arrived back this morning, reflashed and working perfectly! Not too bad on the turn around time AND more importantly, the process was pain free.
