Challenge 15: TRIPTYCH

Postby MHD on Sun Apr 29, 2007 10:13 pm

Challenge 15: Triptych
The theme for Challenge 15 is Triptych. A triptych is described in Wikipedia as:
is a work of art (usually a panel painting) which is divided into three sections

In this challenge entrants must submit an image comprising of three separate images of a similar BUT ANY theme. Thats right, beyond requiring a triptych this challenge is OPEN.

As well as submitting the triptych you must submit the three original images to a separate gallery so that their validity can be assessed (usual EXIF and PP rules will apply to the individual images).. All component images must be taken in the time frame of the challenge. You may frame the triptych in anyway you feel appropriate for the images.

More details on submission procedures will follow once the gallery is open, just ensure:
*You keep the component images
*The EXIF is intact on the component images
*The date is set correctly in you camera

DATES:
Image valid: NOW (The time of this post)
Gallery closes, voting opens: Monday may 28th
Voting closes: June 4th

PRIZES!
1st place: A RENOWNED film camera
2nd place: A Wolf Eyes Sniper tactical torch. Rechargeable worth $110.00

Any questions don't hesitate to post them, besides allowances for the Triptych theme all the normal RULES apply.

Anniversary Weekend (AW) is fast approaching

August 3, 4 and 5 is the AW this year (3 years since the forum started), and we have the first of our AW events on the calendar. There will be a presentation dinner, photoshoots, and photomeets, and goodies all round.

Please keep this weekend noted in your diaries, and we welcome visitors from interstate. I know we already have several people who are planning on coming here for this event, so if you have an idea that you might want to spend a weekend in Sydney ... fares are cheap, and can we do some special accommodation deals for you!

I take it that even though the prizes are not so minor, this is still considered to be a minor challenge due to it being a single round, am I right?

Great choice BTW and thanks to Glen and Starks.

Hi, any chance of someone writing a tutorial or step by step instructions to set up three images together with a border / surround to make it easier for us not so adept at photoshop to learn? I find that getting hold of instructions / notes for a specific task (such as borders and the like) from amoungst the masses of tutorials that clog the 'net to be quite difficult.

You could always go to canvas size, multiply width by 350%, height by around 110% (tweak as you please), choose a background colour, and then drag and drop your images into that file... and then just select the layer and use the transform tool to scale down if necessary. That's a very basic way of doing it. :)

Well, coincidence or not, I think it's a great idea for a challenge. Hopefully I will get an entry in.

Kris, I just checked back on the genesis of this competition theme.

Leigh (nnnnsic) suggested it on 9 March.

I would say - yes - coincidence. Leigh may offer a different view, but in any event, the development of comp themes is a tortuous process, you would be amazed (I seem to recall one comp took 9 pages of posts to settle). I can only speak for myself, but if I saw a good idea elsewhere which could be used for a comp theme here, I would be on it in a second.

But in this case, not so much.

Doesn't bother me either way, just pointing it out. :D

Theirs is actually slightly different, since it doesn't have to be composed of three separate exposures like ours does.

Coincidence.

I wanted to do this theme after I'd suggested Wordplay, but Agriculture came before it so we were rolling with that.

Ok Scott, there's a new section there now, the components section. I take it that you want us to upload the component photos in that section at the same time we upload the triptyc, will they eventually be visible as well?

Yep, as per the frontpage....
There is no need for them to become visable at the end of the comp, it is there purely for EXIF date checking...

I've uploaded my entry and its components! With regard to the EXIF data, if I right-click 'properties' on the component pictures, I get a date created/modified of 23/05/2007 which is today (which is not the date I took the photos!)... how does that work?
