hi,

edit: my first post, and just one word,
still dont have a d70, but im thinking ill get one this xmas, after seeing this site, i think ill get a d70 over a 300d, as the d70 is a better camera, and the price isnt as much as it used to be,

Hi Fad, welcome. You guys definitely have sufficient numbers for a meet in Canberra now. Fad, go take a look at what MHD has - fancy gitzo carbon fibre tripod, fast 1.4 lenses, etc. He has the best gear to lust after for ACT'ians. ;)

Fad,

Welcome.

If you're seriously thinking about getting a D70 for Chrissie, do make sure that you check out the bargains section here. Earlier this week there was, IIRC, a D70 kit plus the 70-300G for ... $2000 before rebate.

It would be great to have a meet - I'd esp like to check out MHD's tripod - I bought a very solid Optix one but after only two outings our relationship is strained, to say the least. I hate pretty much everything about it. Am determined to get something decent this time - although $1000 is probably a fair bit more than the budget can bear!

The thing is, I'm more enthusiastsic than competent so I'd be taking the lead from someone else.

Should we start by picking something to do?

Perhaps a barbeque by the lake somewhere picturesque? Or is it more usual for someone to "host " the meeting?

well i think its decided we need a meet, now the question is where and when, personally i could handle say a mid arvo into night meet as my talents lay more in night work, however that may be too long for some...
