AUTUMN MEET

Postby Wombat124 on Mon Feb 28, 2005 8:08 pm

Hi All Canberrai Forum Members

In our previous thread on the Dawn to Dusk Meet, Ray (Jenno) from Sydney has asked if we are going to have an Autumn Meet as he would like to join us. (Sorry but I don't know how to insert a previous thread into a new thread.) I gave him some info on best locations and when.

I would be interested in this as I believe Canberra is a great place for Fall Foliage (to borrow the yank term).

As autumn starts tomorrow could be start thinking about this - I know that changes wont start appearing for a while, but it is good to start thinking.

Any suggestions etc.

Steve :!:

Would be interested in coming down for a weekend in May if any others are :)
March is rediculously busy, April not much better (with school holidays, etc), and May is really nice in Canberra - just cold enough to let you know it's cold, but generally nice weather.
Anyone know any cheap accommodation?

YHA in Oconnor (http://www.yha.org.au)
nice backpackers....

We should organise a dinner too... Mabie Debarcle (Lonsdale street)

One of the nicest places to view the colours is the Tower... you can see the patchwork of colours!

Great

Looks like there is some interest - from some Sydney forum members as well.

Once we work at a date to suite all, we can wrok out an agenda to get the best of the day.

Like the idea of a dinner as well to end the day.

Hi,

sorry, I posted this response in the wrong spot so I'll post again.
Here it goes:
Hi,

I agree with Wombat.
We should do it and monitor things when we get a little closer.
The older established suburbs with european trees are great in autumn.
Red Hill lookout is also very nice. BTW MHD, I believe I read and heard somewhere that the YHA in OConner has received awards and is one of the best YHA on the planet.

Cheers

Would the weekend of the 7-8/5 be to early to hold the meet?

If we could hold it then I could announce the winner of comp 4 there...

POSSIBLE

Postby Wombat124 on Wed Mar 09, 2005 12:18 pm

That weekend is possible.

My only thoughts is that it maybe a bit late. It has been cooler earlier this year which may bring on an earlier change.

I will see if I can find a site that gives predictions - in USA it is a big thing - there are numerous sites giving up-to-date details on the changes and when the best times will be.

well come to think of it - it is a bit like that in Canberra. many people believe the cold weather comes around about Anzac Day - but I have noticed that that is the first day many people go outside and probably feel the weather changing for the first time!!

The groundhogs are my kids - wont go outsie and play as sson as it starts to get cold/cool. I will watch them...............

Any further news on this one? The weekend AFTER what has been suggested would sit better, but it's your meet - I'll try to work in with what you decide. If I can't then we'll make sure I catch up with as many when I DO make it!

Hi sheepie,

I'm very bad in predicting when seasons start and how seasons progress.
We already have trees changeing their colours.
Wombat could be right, early start and early end ? of autumn ?
I would like to get his advice on 14/15 of May.
Thanks for your reminder, we really need to start thinking about autumn in Canberra.
Come to Canberra and get the beautiful autumn colours that the decidious trees display against a backdrop of clear blue skies.
MHD mentioned accommodation world reknown.

Hi Christiand & Wombat,

Still interested in coming down for an coloured meet if you can arrange. Trees are starting to turn up here in Sydney so guess its the same down there.

Christiand,
Note the time of your last post was 9.51pm... I make it 9.20pm? How does that happen?

ANZAC Day no good for me - we'll be in Taree (as usual!). Make your plans without me, and we'll still aim to come down in May sometime :)

That's very interesting because me and my girls are planning to go to Canberra on 23-24/4. Would be good if someone could show us picturesque places! Can we participate?

Hi Michal,

MHD's suggestions are good plus or as an alternative:
Red Hill, Red Hill Lookout for autumn colours.
Night shots: buildings such as and in between National Library and National Gallery.
Old and new Parliament House.
I will start a discussion tomorrow during our CBR meet and will get back to you.
We are also having the Rallye of Canberra on which is an international event.
I'll get back to you and find out more detail from you.

Cheers

Don't use a long lense outside the embassies though - they may not appreciate your art as much as you do!

I can loan them 200-400VR to shoot the embassies from distance so cut and run is more easier if required.

Hilop,
Pls. remember how many times did you say you want to come to the mini meet? but it's never happened  I based on that and surely, one day you'll have your appearance and check-in with your signature on the book, and it's the day with storm and typhoon or cyclone over Sydney
