Can anyone tell me more? Like a release date etc? And why on earth they have switched to an SD card!?

When?
A few weeks ago: 24th January - ( http://www.dpreview.com/news/0801/08012 ... os450d.asp )

I read on another forum that someone called a shop who said it'll be in in March, but that's just someone saying something, but I'd expect it to be soon :)

Why SD? :O I don't know why :D:D Is it cheaper?

I really don't think it's that exciting, it's the same thing really, and even more boring is the D60...

Probably because it's physically smaller. The xxxD Canon cameras are small and shrinking, so the huge volume required for a CF card and socket take up a sizeable chunk of the available space. SD cards are small and the socket is designed to be small even compared to the card, that's why they have the flat contacts on them.

I'm waiting for one of the second-tier camera makers to decide that they can fit four SD slots in the space required for two CF ones, allowing them to advertise very high speed round-robin SD writing in their attempt at a "pro" camera. I would expect Sony to try that except that they have their own proprietary memory formats  so they will no doubt use those instead.
