I can now take photos in the dark !!!

Postby leek on Wed Mar 04, 2009 10:52 pm

I secured my D700 this afternoon and so far have only taken 1 image... (admire my restraint)...

I took my first D700 image of my daughter in very dark circumstances... Exposure was 1/10s!!! @ 3200 ISO!!!
I was expecting to see a little bit of camera shake / noise, but this is what I got...

Image - this is straight out of the camera without any adjustments...

The D700 would seem to open up a whole new world of photography... I might be selling my flashes soon...

And before anyone asks... there's a food remnant on my daughter's cheek and her hair looks a little weird because she hadn't washed the shampoo / conditioner out of her hair... shortly after this photo was taken, she was sent back for a second shower...

I think the WB / colour balance might have very slightly suffered from the low light - a little too much green?? maybe ?
Cheers, John

You've got to be happy with that John, did you use a VR Lens?

Nothing wrong with that one, John.

Now that, after one image, you have the D700 learning curve licked, we can expect to see some truly stellar images, right? :)

On the contrary. You would be able to use them at a fraction of the power needed before. The recycle times would be fast. I would be encouraged to use more flash!!

Yes I did... the 24-120VR, but I still think its a miraculous result considering how shaky my hands are usually...

John - I remember the thrill that you are currently experiencing!

The D700 is amazing in low light situations...congrats on your purchase.
