Anyone know of a L-bracket for Sony A65

I am not even sure why i am posting this here....there isnt much traffic and there isn't much of a KM/SA community here at all....

I'm looking for an L-Bracket for my Sony A65 (competition prize camera) as it would be nice to be able to use it for vertical stitch panoramic work (in good light) due to the silly high resolution this camera provides. The problem is RRS does not make one, nor does Kirk or Markins. The only one I have found is an "iShoot" universal that is available on Fleabay. Anyone had any experience with this brand? Anyone care to make comments in regard to what they can deduce from the fleabay listing images?

I can deduce that it at least looks up to the job, and I doubt you'll find another L bracket anywhere near that price...

Thanks, you are definitely right about the price

You may like to PM Murray Foote.
I know he has a "Universal" L Bracket that he is quite fond of.
Basically it is a base plate with a side plate that attaches to the base using a couple of long pins which allows the side plate to accommodate different camera sizes.

Yes, and I sent a PM. I'm just back from an 84-day trip to Northern Scotland and the Isles, Lofoten Islands, Spitsbergen, Greenland and Iceland. And I also covered the Narooma Blues Festival last weekend. So I haven't had time to look in for a while.

One thing I forgot to say in the PM is that the Arca-Swiss universal L-Bracket will work but it doesn't have marked centre points for panoramas. You could paint or scratch them on yourself, I suppose.

Thanks, it sounds like you had an interesting trip, I would love to see some pictures

A bit busy at the moment, I'll post some in a while. In the meantime, there are quite a few images of Scotland as temporary posts on my blog.

If you have a Manfrotto tripod and head, they have a choice of 3 adjustable L plates which will fit any camera. The difference between the 3 plates relates a particular tripod head and its quick release plate. That is, whichever quick release plate is on your tripod head, there will be a matching L plate for that plate.
My L plate is used on a Nikon D700 and a D800. Works great.

Thanks, I have and use RRS/Sirui heads and therefore are tied to the Arca Swiss standard. I was hoping to find a dedicated plate with anti-twist flanges (something I have not been able to find so far for this orphan camera), but I will have a look at the Manfrotto product as it is a new one.

I just ordered the iShoot one, so hopefully it will arrive and miraculously fit the RRS head, and have a usable anti-twist flange. If not it was a cheap L-bracket for the Sony that still works with the Sirui K10X head

It arrived whilst I was in Perth, it is nicely finished, but does not hold a candle to the RRS stuff. Fortunately it can be contorted to have a usable anti-twist flange, I have yet to try on a RRS lever clamp but compared to my RRS brackets it seems to be a tad wider at the dove tail. Unfortunately the bracket does obscure the battery compartment.

Pictures

The anti-twist flange (removable) just reaches far enough to attach to the front of the camera
Image

The battery door is obscured by the bracket - not so good
Image

the forward position forced by the usage of the anti-twist flange - also the access flaps are now unusable
