The soft light looks fantastic until you start breathing the air that creates it! Thank God for the (reasonably) clean air we have here in OZ!

I think he is creating gradients of light in photoshop and seperating his subjects from the background. Most of the shots can't be real. if it is, he is living in heaven! :)

I've seen his work before. He did explain somewhere how he does it. I think he still starts with a very nice composition but with Photoshop, he does various adjustments/dodge/burn to get the final product. They do come out very nice with a very distinctive look and feel.

cheers,

André

Can't seem to find it again. I think there was some discussions on flickr. I also found this one on dpreview:

http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/read. ... e=24972177

Basically someone trying to replicate the effect. Some of the threads discuss seeing images with the same elements, eg kids playing, then seeing the same elements in another photo but with different lighting and sometimes different backgrounds. There is no question that he does use Photoshop to get the final effect but he does start with some pretty good photos to begin with.

His full collection on photo.net:

Rarindra is a great illustration of seeing the photo before taking it, then going home and making the photo!

I have tried to emulate his technique somewhat with the following photo.
