Using LR

Postby TonyT on Thu Apr 06, 2017 11:24 pm

Hi
a basis first step into LR. I am working on the idea that you are a first time user and have never seen LR.

STEP 1 OPEN LR

FILE – NEW CATALOG –

Dialog box appears

save as: MY PHOTO’S

Where: THIS IS WHERE YOU WILL FIND THE CATALOG (MY PHOTO’S– Ircat.)

CLICK – CREATE

BRING PHOTO’S INTO LR

CLICK THE IMPORT BUTTON, BOTTOM LEFT, IN THE Library SCREEN. IMPORT SCREEN APPEARS.

FIND THE FOLDER WHERE THE PHOTO’D LIVE

RIGHT SIDE

SOURCE – WHERE YOU ARE IMPORTING FROM

LEFT SIDE
DESTINATION –THE FOLDER WHERE LR WILL SEE THEM, IN THIS CASE THE FOLDER NAMED (MY PHOTO’S).

MIDDLE TO BAR

CHOOSE YOUR OPTION
Copy as DNG Copy Move Add

Select Add (Add photos to catalog without moving them)

YOU MAY WISH TO RENAME FILES OR LEAVE AS-IS

MY METHOD IS 20170406 – 5678 (CAPTURE FILE NUMBER)

LR WILL SELECT ALL PHOTO’S BY DEFAULT – CLICK IMPORT BOTTOM RIGHT.

STEP 2

FOLDERS – KEY WORDS

YOU NOW HAVE A MASTER FOLDER NAMED (MY PHOTO’S).

RIGHT CLIP ON WINDOWS OR CONTROL CLICK ON MAC. OVER THE MASTER FOLDER NAME.

NOW YOU CAN CREATE OTHER FOLDERS INSIDE YOU MASTER AND MOVE THE PHOTOS INTO THESE FOLDERS.

IMPORTANT
ONCE YOU HAVE IMPORTED THE PHOTO’S. YOU ONLY MOVE THE PHOTO’S INSIDE LR. NOT ON YOUR HARD DRIVE, IF YOU DO LR WILL NOT KNOW WHERE THEY ARE AND WILL SHOW MISSING FILES MESSAGE.

KEY WORDS

ARE WORD THAT RELATE TO THE PHOTO.

Example
Trees,Bark,2017,Brown
Image
THESE CAN BE ADDED ON IMPORT OR LATER

If anybody wishes to add any thing please do or the next step by all means.

Next step some short cuts keys in the library module and rating and deleting.

Then adjustment in the Develop module.

Glad to here Oz.

Just some short cuts in the Library module and such.

OK you have all your shots imported.

I how scroll through the shots and delete the rubbish by selecting them by using the (X) button. This does not delete the photos it selecting the photos to be deleted, by doing this a flag with an X in it will be attached the shot. To delete them go to Photo - Delete Rejected Photos. To undo click on the flag.

Now I scroll again and select the shot, I think have promise by using the (P) button a white flag will be attached to the shot.

Collections. Theses are my friends.

What do here is you create a smart collection. which will collect all the photos that are flagged.

Collections - Click + - Create smart collection - Name collection - click Rating - Change to Pick Flag - Create. Now all flagged photo will be seen in the that collection.
Note: the photos are not moved into the collection, the photos can be from number of folders but are seen in the collections because there meet the rule that been set.Collections can be create for star, colour rating, keywords etc.

(E) Loupe View
(G) Grid
(N) This is handy, Say you have a number of shots of the same scene or subject. Select all of these shots and push (N) You will now have only the selected shots on the screen, hover over a shot and you will see an (X). Click the X will remove the shot from the set.

Cheers
