Out of curiostiy, how many people are registered in total? ie. What's the max number of entries possible.

I see there are about 350 members here who have 50+ posts.

So anyone added a couple of eggs to their kit yet ? I've been wondering the best way to store them, I think a cut down carton and then carefuly placement in my bag would do.

Pre boil?

I now have 15 regos to get through... will do soon I promise :) !

Scott, a quick question.
I'm registered for challenges as d70johnd.
Do I need to change my registration now I have a d200.
Future images are probably going to be from the d200, but I use my d70 as a second body, so you never know.

Cheers
John

John,

Doesn't your D70 registration have enough pixels? :)

PostPosted: Tue Jun 06, 2006 8:12 pm
by johnd
Absolutely not. How can you expect 6M pixels to capture an egg? Need at least 10M. Until last week, I though I needed 12M.

John,
You soon need a new camera with 16mp.
Nah! 10mp won't do good

John, I wouldn't try for a whole egg without full frame

You talked me into it Glen.
Birdy can you get me a 24mp full frame D4X before the challenge finishes?

by MHD
Nah, no need to change, the prefix is somewhat of historical hang up that I have stuck to... its only a rough statistic...

Ok:
I have processed over 15 registrations now, if you have not received a rego email please resend me your details or check your PMs as there was an error..

TWO REMINDERS:
you MUST send me a valid email address
This comp is intended for user of DSLR cameras, while I am sure a point and shoot can take good images these forums are primarily for discussion of DSLR cameras and as such the images for the comp must be taken using a DSLR body.

Another quick question.

For the 2 round challenges, are the images submitted in the 1st round made visable during the second round?

Yes they are, so if you have a really original idea you have two schools of thought, post it first so you can claim it was original, but risk people copying the idea and bettering it, or posting it 2nd but risking someone else having the same idea. BTW the two schools of thought exist in my mind, I doubt they exist outside of it

That's exactly why I was asking.

Are there any any rules in place to stop your "original" idea being copied in the second round?

No not that I know off, and without wanting to start a IP/copyright debate I don't think it's too much of an issue, but I'm sure others would disagree. If you look back at past Challenges there are definitely similarities or common themes amongst them, and this is in the Single part challenges aswell, as the 2 part ones. I'm sure there will be some similar ones in this challenge too, but I feel that each shot should be judge on it's on merits, if someone can take my idea and better it with more skillful composition or lighting techniques etc then good on them.

PostPosted: Wed Jun 14, 2006 4:17 pm

The anger of the voters, Thats what... Both the galleries remain open, so if some one, even the photographer, submits something to similiar I think the voting public would punish it...

PostPosted: Wed Jun 14, 2006 4:22 pm
by Alpha_7
Really ? I might have to check back on the past votes, but I've seen a number of repeat photos submitted by the same photographer with slight different composition or lighting but essentially the same subject matter / idea used. I didn't realise the public would vote against that....

Edit : I went back and looked and could find 2 different photographers repeating the same themed shot in a two part challenge, I thought there was more but I'm obviously mistaken.

8 entries so far.
You will only receive an email if you email me on entry of image. I will *usually* check all entries and notify people of problems if they exist. However, unless you email me and specifically ask me to check you will not get an email. In the end the onus is on the entrant to read the rules and ensure the entry is valid. At the end of the day if you check these simple points you should be ok:
*No blatantly obvious identifying features (eg name in EXIF)
*Date correct and present in EXIF
*Check that the title of the image does not give away your identity
*If the image is of a nature that may be unsuitable for younger audiences (ie MA) please email me for aproval. My descision on content is final but I am open minded
*Make sure any PP was applied to the WHOLE image, with the exception of *simple* frames... If unsure email me the PP steps and I will do a spot ruling

Whoa! Thanks for the reminder Alpha_7! I only recently got the camera and thought it was set ok, but another check just now and I found my date was 2005!!

Luckily I can still reshoot. But geez... :?

wow, this is great. THis is my first time to participate in a DSLRUSERs challenge (hoping I qualify as a member since im new to this site).

Like the subject, and have some pics that have really made me rethink how I can get more from my $220 50/1.8. I have my first submission ready, and amazed at the color and detail I was able to get from a googie egg.

If I dont qualify as a new member, I hope to share my work via the Images forum, and look forward to some critic of my images.

Loving capturing the moments!
Oz.

Does it still comply with the criteria as noted in the rules?

If it's fried or poached, it's broken, but it's still obviously an egg, isn't it ? :)

Well I was thinking it was beyond "natural extraction" if it was broken or cooked.

I've got a question regarding PP...

Using the Hue/Saturation tool is OK?

What about the Hue/Saturation tool while selecting say 'greens' from the pulldown colour thingy? Or using the dropper to choose a colour from the image?

by Alpha_7
Brad start again, if you worried about greens you obviously have a bad egg. Buy some fresh ones and you won't have to worry about the greens ;-)

On a more serious note, your asking questions I'm not sure of the answer too, I in the past haven't PP my shots at all to avoid breaking the rules, but I'm much more confident now.

That's just an egg that's had some PP applied. :)

"Natural extraction" is related to its source: was it laid by an animal of some sort, or made by a man (chocolate or Faberge), if you get my drift.

If you have something specific that you are concerned about, but you're concerned about confidentiality/creativity, please feel free to PM Scott or me with your concerns and we'll see if we can sort it out.

My understanding is that global changes to hue/saturation are okay but not to selected areas. Therefore, each change would need to be applied to the whole image, not to certain selected areas within it.

I may be wrong, but that's how I read the rules.
