congratulations to the winners. All three shots were my favourites.
It's inspired me to go out and try some night shots.

These fabulous shots would hold up in any competition. 'Bogey Hole' was a real standout for me in it's beautiful simplicity; 'Descent from Darkness' was just a killer shot that really nailed the theme and 'Night Reflections' was one of the best shots I've seen of the Old Coathanger.

I'd like to thank, most sincerely, everyone who voted for my shot, 'Rush Hour' and considered it was anywhere near this sort of illustrious company. The shot was literally taken and posted within a few short hours of the deadline and I didn't know what I was going to shoot when I left the house that afternoon. Luckily the weather and the light came together nicely and I got something I liked.

Congratulations to all who entered and for making this a tough challenge. The standard was very high and augers well for the future.

I'm really looking forward to Challenge #7.

Thanks guys for the kind votes that pushed me into second place. I really didn't expect it at all. I too agree that Bogey Hole was No 1. by far and am chuffed to come in second after such a great image.

I was impressed by yours as well - very atmospheric. It really conveyed the feeling of isolation and despair. Black and white suited it perfectly.

Hi everyone,

wow, what a surprise, I'm still in Africa and reading this in the airport prior to leaving for home.

Thanks to everyone that voted. When I made that shot, I was really, really pleased with it as well.

I must say that I really liked embi's shot as well, well done. Potatis' shot is also a classic Sydney photo.

Thanks again and I'm afraid you'll get to see a lot of Africa photos, once I get back :-)

Congratulations to the winners and to everyone who summoned up the courage to enter

I think the word "challenge" is definitely appropriate as you're competing against yourself to try and think outside the square to capture the best pic. It's not about the prizes or competing against another member, well for me anyway. This does not mean that if I win sometime in the future that I would forfeit the prize

So instead of the CF cards, we win a Merc keyring? :twisted:

Thanks very much to everyone who voted so generously for my photo. I was surprised with my third place. I appreciate the kind comments that I've received, as I'm aware that some people were at least a little bit bored of the subject I chose. To those people, I'll try to be more creative next time.

Thanks for the generosity of those who have donated the prizes. I know we all look forward to what prizes are up for grabs in Challenge #7.

Very well done Radar and Embi for your excellent entries. Well done Simon for "Rush Hour", your entry was in my top 3

Thanks Alex, I do realise it isn't in everyones' tastes... Your shot was the only other one that I considered a genuinely interesting and different way of seeing the 10 sec exp. The problem with this is the outcome doesn't make a 'beautiful' photo (like the winner's for example), rather an interesting idea. I think you really 'nailed' the timing in yours, all bulbs are evenly illuminated - the idea is thus easily understood. I liked your a lot - simple, iconic and technical.

I would like to congratulate the winner - wow - that is a photo that IS everyones' tastes. Not to mention that it is what I thought would stand out in this topic when I brain-stormed it. I am very happy with the results and the winner.

Thanks for the encouraging comments, Heath. I had big problems with exposure, some bulbs were underexposing and others were over exposing. Took me a while to get the timing right, also. I think I ended up spending close to an hour there with the driving-by motorists thinking I am a nutter.

Incidentally, if anyones interested:

Although I had a reasonable idea of the sort of composition I wanted, I actually used Google Earth to zero in on some freeway overpasses to choose one that would give me a nice sweeping corner and an exit to bring more interest to the shot. A very handy resource! :wink:

I will be away in NZ for two weeks and need to try and get an image while I'm away....then again...scrap that idea. Its my honeymoon and who's going to have time to take pictures. :wink:
