Tokina 11-16mm f2.8

With everyone getting new bodies, I think that separate section for you to proudly display your first image from your new acquisition is in order.

This applies to brand new bodies, as well as bodies that are simply newly acquired by you.

First images from the new lens - wow, this lens is damn awesome, but i really don't have anything to compare it to so I am a bit biased!

Congrats on the new purchase! Where and how much? [I am also in the market; awaiting latest poon pricing]

How is the flare control? Have you tried any filters on it?

Nice Beaver btw. I am beginning to think that you own that plane....

Congrats Gerry, now I think I will be asking you borrow that lens....

Great shots, I really like the one from the driver's seat of your car. I am afraid about how you captured it though.

Surenj, the Tokina 11-16mm f/2.8 will happily take thin ringed 77mm filters (eg. Hoya Pro 1) as for flare control, the hood takes care of most of it. Mozzie owns one for her 400D and I have never noticed any flare issues with it.

Thanks for the info Cameron. I had a good think about it and decided on the Canon 10 22 which I think will suit my needs better especially shooting into the sun [as well as resale value]

wow.. nice lens!

As a ultrawide, should i go for this? or a tamron 10-24? i despise the sigma with passion.

Considering most of my shots are weddings and portraiture, i'd love to have a nifty wide =D

so how does she perform ? bear in mind i've got my 7D armed with glass from years ago.. it aint as clear or good as it used to be, but hey! 24-70 2.8 sigma for free? haha score!

is the tokina suitable for people shots though? thats my main concern..

Photomarcs, Why not the Canon 10 22? Although if you were into creative portraiture with an ultrawide at weddings, tokina maybe better as it's about 2/3 - 1 stop faster than the Canon. But these days you could compensate with the ISO.... Remember both are APS-C lenses so you will need to sell it when you get your 1D.

nope...unless your talking about the group shots with 300 hundred drunk people in the frame...

24-70 2.8 sigma for free? haha score!

sure is...

so how does she perform ?

pretty good  but i have only used it twice...so stand-by

Thanks Gerry, I can spot some as below.

correcto! I took this picture with the intention of checking out the flare! Compared to the 17-55, it may be better, I think another sunrise is in order...

I've played with the canon 10-22, i'm personally not a fan of it.. for some reason it just doesnt feel so right!

at the moment, i'm even contemplating the 12-24 Sigma..full frame ultrawide..

but this Tokina 11-16 sounds droolworthy.. especially the 2.8 and being lower than canon's "top" wide.. ( 16-35mm 2.8L)

I need something wider than 17..as i'm definately up for a 17-40 f4L after i get that 70-200mm f2.8L IS USM

The images by this tokina is real nice..
 to biggerry, "we are not worthy" indeed.

Marcus, we will have to try to get you one to play with...

I wasn't impressed with the Canon EF-S 10-22 either, especially since my mates one would not focus on the coathanger when we were night shooting from observatory hill

Amen. I was never a fan of the 10 22 due to the lack of focusing quality. As i also tested one out, i wasn't too happy with edge to edge sharpness, even at f13..not a happy camper.. i'll have to post an image up sooner or later of it..
