Well, I did get a D7000 for my birthday. I haven't had a lot of time to play with it yet, but have taken 58 images. One minor problem I have is that Lightroom 2 doesn't support the D7000 and I'll need to upgrade to Lightroom 3 to get support. I'm hanging off upgrading until I can get someone to get me an upgrade package from the US (for US$95) instead of being massively ripped off by Adobe Australia who want to charge AU$136 for the exact same thing (downloaded from the US). In the mean time, I can use Adobe DNG Converter and import the DNG files.

Here is DSC_0001 - not great because the focus is a little off, but it is the first image:


The second image is a bit better:


Both the above images were taken with the D7000, Nikkor 60mm f/2.8D, SB800 and mini diffuser.

Images 8 and 19 were taken with D7000, 60mm f/2.8D, pop-up flash and mini diffuser:




I have 2 fungi images as well, but I have already hit my limit of 4 images.

That third image is pretty cool.......and with pop up flash, you have done well. Very nice, even lighting, and I guess is as a result of the diffusion. Is the diffuser you use an 'off the shelf' item or some homemade device?

Yeah, the idea is to spread the light source over a wide area.

It is the eBay item that Gerry found. Cheap and very effective.

Nice one Andrew, I am keen to hear what you think of the D7000 as you get more use out of it.

Agreed, very even lighting, and you have even avoided the nasty red eye with the twin-tailed possum [at least it looks like it has two tails]

Possums have have a strip along the bottom of the tail with no fur. This is used to gain a grip on branches, etc.

I was wrong! I went back today to check them out again.

The single one was at the base of a burnt out stump. It has been quite a few years since a fire has been through there.

The two together were indeed at the base of a Casuarina.

I found another one that was not at the base of anything.

Yes they seem to like burnt bark/stumps. I had only seen them on gums so being in association with Casuarina is interesting to add to the knowldge base.
