B&H Warehouse is burning!

Postby birddog114 on Fri Feb 25, 2005 11:17 am

Hottest News!

I've got an email from friends in NYC:

" the B&H warehouse in Brooklyn NY is on fire and burning out of control. This is where B&H stocks mostly everything.Millons of $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$"

If it's true than anyone have orders from B&H will expected a long delay of shipping! It's a super huge photography store in NYC!

Hahah it was the Electronic Company in the same warehouse block that caused the fired. Somebody left a soldering iron on and it set fire to tv boxes.

Noooo.

Accident? Do they have suspects? Rampant Deviant Insane C&non users?

On a more serious note this will effect world supply, I can already see high ebay prices scaling upwards, australian prices will be out of this world for some time.

How much impact on the D2h / x do you think this will have?

That's their main office, they have few of their warehouses in the vicinity, so the only stock in their store will be affected, other warehouses may be not. But we don't know, what're in their store?

B&H and Adorama are owned by the same family, so I doubt Adorama would be wanting to take advantage of this incident.

All joking about fire sales aside.
They hopefully did not lose to much camera stock. They are the only large US distributor that offers both US and "Gray" market and lets the buyer choise what they want. :(
The difference is you have to return the item to them for warrenty work vs Nikon.
They get the Gray market items from other distibutors and bypass Nikon. If they lose to many of these items it could have an effect on the world supply. If you were in Hong Kong and they offered to but all available stock would you turn them down :?:
This along with Birddog's earlier post about lens shortages could turn the shortage into a serious drought
They still list the 80-400 VR both Gray and US in stock will have to see what they say tomorrow.
I just queried that one because that was on my short list for when my dear Uncle Sam gives me some of my money back
I'm sure most know their site but if not here it is impressive not only in stock carried but what they have listed as "In Stock"

They also list the 70-200VR both grey and US as being in stock with a price that is very competitive with HK

On B&H website, they listed the imported 70-200VR in stock, but no real stock at this present.
I have a customer in Sydney wants to get 2 x 70-200VR, they ordered from B&H two weeks ago and finally they got an email from B&H on Wed. advised as back-order, no stock and no ETA, they turned to me this morning to see if I can get those for him.
Their website is not very accuracy about their stock level, USA stock is dried out since Mid Dec., and now they've been hit by fire, so there's your guess!

Is the warehouse in the same block as the store front? 2 work colleagues were going to be there over this weekend and they are sure going to be disappointed if it is

Nup, this warehouse burning is reported to be in Brooklyn. Their retail shopfront is in Manhattan. (33rd and 17th - for your work colleague; just up the road from Madison Sq Gardens).
