Ahh, the venerable self portrait lens.

Nice F3 as well.

I wonder if I can get a dome port for it (so I can take it underwater).

LOL - yes well a circular fisheye will do that for you. You could PP them to try and make them rectilinear but you'll get massive distortion and quality loss from the stretching.

On my Coolpix you could tell it you wanted a rectilinear image and it would essentially automatically zoom to the point where you end up with a full frame.

Probably 39mm.

Seriously.

Many Nikon lenses include an internal 39mm filter within the body's light path as a part of the optical path for the glass. There's a removable holder into which the filter is mounted. You extract the holder and place a replacement filter into the light path, and you always ensure that there's a filter of some sort within the light path.

And I detect some considerable geometric distortion.

It's gotta be hard to stay out of the frame with this one. As they say, in Soviet Russia the picture takes you!

Fascinating piece of gear… Here's a rear view:

It also shows the filter wheel with five built-in filters.

Cheers
Steffen.

I think they must be tripod mounts on the back of the lens. Not too many lenses have that.

As far as lenses go, though, it's only a tiddler compared to this one for a 3.2 gigapixel camera. Filter size two or three metres.
