I'm not sure why the number of users dropped during the changeover; perhaps the extract from the old database left out a couple of dud records or something.

But I'm not concerned; we had about a half dozen who joined after I posted a note on the front page specifically asking them to not sign up until the site move was complete.

I guess they failed the most basic intelligence test I could come up with. :)
