After much discussion this challenge is open to Australian residents only. Quite simple really, images must have a shutter speed of 10 seconds! So EXIF headers must contain the shutter speed flag... if you have problems with headers you can try an entry (I suggest get your entry and erase the image) out at http://www.potofgrass.com/gallery/testing (you must be logged in) soon! Or ask around DATES: Image valid from: NOW! Entries close: Sunday 18th of sept 11:59pm (EDITED) Voting close: Noon Saturday 24th of september Winner will be announced very soon after Log ins from previous comps are all valid. New entrants should PM me: *DSLR username *Body you primarily use *prefered name To obtain a log in you must have more than 10 posts on the forums and you must have your location in your profile **ALL DSLR BODIES ARE ELIGABLE!** Search around for the comp rules... But in summary: *This is a photography competition not a graphic design comp: Only "global" post proccessing allowed (eg unsharp, WB, etc..) *Simple frames are allowed *Any image that is of adult content should be cleared though me first The submission gallery will be opened in a few days as well as instructions on how to enter Last edited by MHD on Mon Sep 12, 2005 9:43 am, edited 1 time in total.

I would like to mirror rokkstars sentiments here. Wow - every competition - and they run pretty much non-stop throughout the year, has prizes. Amazing. Thanks very much. HB
I have a 10sec exposure of a council worker on Windsor road holding a shovel.....unfortunately there was no movement and the image is still as sharp as a tack!
Stuart 'Tis better to have loved and lust than never to have lust at all.
You must have caught them during a work period, during a coffee or lunch break there would have been plenty of movement and you would have just got a blurred image of a group of bodies disappearing into a pub/coffee shop etc. Did I just say that? "Photography is not about cameras, gadgets and gismos. Photography is about photographers. A camera didn't make a great picture any more than a typewriter wrote a great novel." -Peter Adams, Sydney 1978
It's funniest for those who live around here.
Terry, Quite an astute observation. And obviously, at a full ten seconds, Stuart managed to capture the whole extent of the work period as well. g.

Ummm what is 'dark field subtraction' ?? To Scott - thanks for hosting again and To Birddog and Gary - excellent prizes yet again !! What an amazing community. To Heath - Great choice of theme - I anticipate some very cool and creative images in this batch. Cheers, Craig
Subtraction of a dark image
Ie an image where the shutter was closed... gets rid of some DC sensor noise New page

Well thanks to the organisers and the prize suppliers for once again a great effort.
I purchased my new manfrotto tripod today and I'm ready to rumble.... oops...I forgot to take the lens cap off "If your pictures aren't good enough, you're probably not close enough." Robert Capa.

Re: Challenge 6: The 10 second exposure
19th Sept is a Monday
I was just thinking about this, and how it can be interpreted. For instance I was thinking of the old multiple exposures on film cameras where you wouldn't wind on (so multiple exposures at set number of seconds?). However afaik, this can't be done on digital only through post processing techniques. So does this mean an image's exif will have to read 10 seconds?

I would imagine so, it would be the only measurable common denominator. If I'm alone in a forest and my wife is not around to hear what I say, am I still wrong ??
I have taken my first 10 second exposure shot. Went quite well, although I fear that a couple of the highlights may be slightly blown.....

Now RAW is pretty good, but I think that might be stretching the limits.

read the thread, had an idea or two.........
gary b should get a prize for having the first submission..... i PMSL when i saw his 'image' - though, if it was shot in raw will be be able to adjust the exposure in PP though to show us what he was shooting good luck to one and all in the beginning was the word, and the word was Aardvark......
Greg - I have looked at your image and studied the precision with which you have controlled the exposure. Not only that, but the subject matter would be of infinite pleasure to certain forum members. IMO the comp should end here and now, as there will be no photo taken to match your superlative effort - well done
Chris

Actually the D2x can do this in two ways. You can set it to combine the results of a number of exposures into one image or you can merge two images in camera (via the menu) to make a new one. Exactly why anybody would want to do this in camera rather than using PP completely escapes me. Gimmicks I reckon. Cheers Dean I intend to live forever. So far, so good.

sorry Greg, all I see is a black border around a white rectangle.....am I missing something
...unless of course you exposed for your name, in which case it came out perfectly Did you use a custom curve "in-camera" to boost the contrast ?? Dave

"Greg, there's no EXIF data"....
"Greg, I don't like your border".... Really, people, it's not often an über shot like this is posted on this site and I am disappointed that more of you can't get past your petty personal prejudices to see that. Shame, shame, shame. Rae

Greg,
Is that the phot you took this morning, of your morning coffee? Short Black, as I recall? g.
