F90x Am I crazy??

Postby ljxphotography on Mon Dec 22, 2008 12:50 am

Just bought a Nikon F90x with grip!!! will get here after christmas.

I have a D3, yet I still have an urge to delve into old technology. I Still have a D1 that I love to use, the colour that comes out of that camera is great, and I just sold my D200 which I hated in favor of a D1x, and I love it, well you cant zoom when you preview, 3fps max and a 2gb card is as big as you can use, but the colour is great, noise is better than the 200 and a 500th of a sec flash sync is great for offroad motorsport. And its so tuff you could use it for personal protection

Anyways, I think the F90x will be fun, and Ive just sorted out my lenses so they suit full frame, no more DX 8)

Am I crazy?

The F90x is a great camera with a bunch of functions similar to the D series cameras you have mentioned, which allows smooth transition. I have this camera with grip and love it. My complaint about the grip (compared to the MB-D200) is the lack of command dials. Firing the camera in portrait mode and trying to change shutter speeds is a bit of a pain, but not a major issue.

It also has a nice, solid feel which is reassuring.

You wil enjoy.

I would say NO, your perfectly sane, I have a F80 and a FM2n and would like to pick up a F3 at some point when I have the money and come across one at the right price. I have used the F90x and found that it is a nice camera, great feel in the hand.

:ot: I spotted a New Old Stock grip for a F80 at Tom Saades Camera House the other day for $75 and was thinking maybe I should get it, anyone think it would be a waste of money?

Almost by definition, crazy is a very relative term, determined by the company one keeps! :)

Either Nikon or Epson scanners, they are great stuff. Models depending on your volume needs, some can scan faster than others.

Mick,

Just a bit of a warning for you: scanning is a very labour intensive process. You may find that the lab where you get the film processed will be able to put your images onto a CD as a part of their processing services. That may be a worthwhile alternative, and will save you much time.

Thanks Garry,
I checked that out when I bought my film, it wasnt to expensive either, and fast turn around is good.
A scanner is still on the cards when I have some money in the bank, probly a epson V100 or 200, just so I can do it if I want too.

F5 would be cool 8) :agree: , They are cheep now.
The F90x and grip cost me $170, F5's arnt that cheep and I couldnt justify spending anymore on a toy, though Im pretty happy with it so far, its a lot more solid than I thought and quite fast. I can see it getting dragged along to a wedding or 3.
Will use for some of the offroad racing I shoot, on a tripod close to the race track with a fisheye. film having more dynamic range will give me more margin for error and I dont have to worry about it getting squashed cuz its worth nothing 8)

I just got a F100 with only one roll of film through and still like new for $250, quite nice actually. Might consider the grip for this beast.

Woops haven't checked this forum...

But I'll answer anyway, no I don't have access to another, it's an ex-boss' camera that she bought in England and sold it to me to get me to 'look after it'.

I still haven't really used it... :( Took only a few shots...
