indeed:

http://www.dxomark.com/index.php/Camera ... (appareil1)/792%7C0/(brand)/Nikon/(appareil2)/767%7C0/(brand2)/Nikon/(appareil3)/441%7C0/(brand3)/Nikon

the low light performance is of course using a downsampled 8mp image. looks better, really looking forward to the reviews now.

i get the feeling the mkiii is gonna be even better again.

Than the Mkii? Or the D800?

I would expect the former. The comparison with the latter will be very interesting.

I'm very impressed with the dynamic range that we're seeing here, and it's also interesting that the D800 is indeed nipping at the heels of the MF sensors, but for a fraction of the cost.

Who's feeling tempted? :) (less than a month before I head off to New Orleans now ... )

mkiii even better than the d800 i meant. not tempted yet but i have moved a peg up from writing it off. the samples ive seen still dont do much for me, especially the high iso ones. the mkiii on the other hand..the samples look superb.

It looks pretty impressive to me. I like the colour reproduction and of course the resolution. I don't need any more than 4fps and I'm never up late enough to need higher than 3200 ISO. Movies are not my forte so I ignore those specs.

I would be very surprised if this camera does not sell by the pallet in every store that stocks them.

Nikon are already reporting stock shortages and delays, but that's not really anything new when it comes to new models; there were significant delays when the D70 was released, and pretty well that's been the case for every new body ever since.

Greg,

Congratulations. May I ask how much you paid, and from where? And what were the stock levels like?

Foto Riesel. (i.e. from Cam)
Stock levels: They got two. Mine was second on the pre-order list. As of this morning when I picked mine up, the other one was still sitting in the shop. Ordered the day it was announced within minutes of hearing the announcement.

The price - refer to the little sign to the left of the camera, but I am sure Cam looked after us.

Still reading the manual - and you think the SB800 menu system is bad. Hope to take first photos tomorrow. It will probably manage to come to the meet on the 15th for anyone who wants a play (BYO CF/SD card)

Cam - what can you tell us about the future supply of the D800?

It looks bleak to me, I count about 32 bodies on backorder...and so if you wanted to place an order now it may be a wait. I may have more stock in the next week or two but I have that backorder to fulfil.
