I think distance wise you are spot on (unless you have cropped) I guess it depends on whether your looking for tighter shots like head&shoulders.

I reckon trying to nail that elusive eye contact would be the ticket, if a central possie makes this happen I would be all for it

I do like the first, its a good pose and makes me want to know more

It could just be me, but the white balance on some of these could be adjusted, I would like to see more of a 'white' on the first and third.

Fozzie, just shoot with the 300 and that will get you in close Knowing the crazy lighting changes they use for these shows you have done well.

I mostly shot from the back as well, and most of my shots from there are better than the ones where I was at the stage. Jason Vandepeer from Kryztoff magazine shot from the front and got some very good shots, so I guess it can work either way.

White balance is always hard for theatre, go too white and you lose the sense of what the lighting tech was aiming for, not enough and the colours can look over the top. I usually go somewhere in the middle where I can. The lighting for this show was particularly bizarre, very often aimed at feet rather than faces.

Kev, I have to disagree. Those shots you have linked to are no where near as sharp as yours or Fozzies. The colours are no better either. I think you are selling yourself short!!!

I agree, with this kind of stuff you really need nice and sharp.

are those a bit de-sat? iresspective, the de-sat PP actually suits the theme quite well imo.

I agree with Tony - I was disappointed in mine till I looked at Jasons and now think that mine aren't too bad for 3200 hand held at 200mm.
I can't decide if I should stick to the colors as shot on the night or try and correct to skin tone

If you're having trouble with strong colour cast, you could try going b&w.
It may not help, but it's what I normally do with multicoloured lighting conditions.

NO NO NO leave em as you shot them. why do people want to change the colour to get the skin to look normal? When we shine coloured lights on to objects - skin included - it changes that colour!!!! So leave as you shot it cause that is how you saw it!!! It is part of the atmosphere the lighting people are trying to create. They are fine as they are and they are a true represantative of what was going on. Leave them alone!!!!

, Colour correct to match what you saw on the night! If the artists wanted us to see flesh coloured flesh they would only use white lights!

I think that Deb was actually asking for opinions etc, so I think that the suggestions made are fine.

FWIW, Tony's advice is spot on. In this situation you have a staged environment, and trying to colour correct that will be an exercise in futility.

I would leave the images basically as shot.

I completely agree, Kevin & fozzie's shots were much better than mine, especially the ones that got put up on FB. They got completely desaturated in PP and were no where near as sharp as they should have been.

Not a critique forum I know, but even so: most of these shots are slightly overexposed. You've got saturation clipping going on (one channel, usually red in this case, is blown). Always tricky in situations like this.
That aside, nice work!

Thanks Dave appreciate the feedback next time I'll be happy with the color as is but also be aware of the saturation clipping - never heard of it so glad to have something else to learn
