June 29th meet - 2pm - Meet outside Ian Potter Centre Fed Sq

Postby PiroStitch on Wed May 28, 2008 9:07 pm

G'day all,

As expressed on Sunday in the dimming light, there was a plan to meet up in the city in June. Meeting time would be 2pm again.

The idea was to go walkies around the CBD area and there was interest in shooting the laneways and hidden sites of Melbourne. Since we'll be in the CBD and there are heaps of cafes, maybe we can fit in a quick arvo tea or coffee as well.

Cheers,

Wayne

Can't do the 22nd... actually I'll be busy using your 24-70 Sigma that night, if that's still cool... :)

But would love to meet up with everyone again on the 29th.

And it'll give everyone a last minute chance to do some "painting with light" for the challenge too.....

At this rate I think the 29th looks to be the better day. Shall we lock it in?

Paul, I realised that the 22nd wasn't going to suit either of us because well...I won't have a lens to shoot with hahahah.

I wanted to move down, so I found a different job. Instead of being one of 30,000 valued human resources in a global solution services provider I'm now a disposable contractor for a wunch of bankers. Slightly better money, different office, much be cycling. Oh, and they actually have winters here.

Rental market down here is very sad. In Sydney my experience was that I could just rock up and they'd look at my references and income and offer me the place. Here they're taking advantage of the tight market to treat tenants even worse than you would expect, and there are so many applicants that it's hard to even get their attention. So that's taking up way more time than it should.

Either date would suit me.

It would be good to meet up with some people from around melbourne. I've only just really gotten into the DSLR game recently.

Sports is my main focus but hey i'd love to learn as much as possible about portrait ans landscape too if i can :D

Hello all, I'm new and noticed the meet. I was excited to see that it's so soon and so conveniently located, but alas, I must attend lunch with Father Inlaw on Sunday. However, there is a slim chance that if lunch is short I may make it, if so please be sweet to me as it will be my first time with you all. I'll be the one with the longish reddish hair who turns up with a tall blond kit caddy - perhaps I could find a camera for him so that he doesn't feel left out.

I suspect that I'm likely not to make it so looking to the future, if your after ideas, perhaps the next meet could be at the top of Collins Street in front of Parliament House. Fitzroy gardens has some great trees, Parliament House isn't bad to photograph and the Cathedral is a Melbourne stunner. Perhaps you have already done this area.

Can people who have just moved to Melbourne come along? :-)

I'm pretty sure I know where the meeting point is, so that's a start :-)

Is there a phone number for someone who's going if people are late, or whatever? (I'm coming up from Geelong on the train, and you know what V-Line is like...)

Also, should we need to bring strobes, etc? I've got a few in my kit, but the stands are in storage in Perth at the moment. I can bring a few 550EXs and some PWs if people are interested. (Might be a bit much to cart umbrellas around, though.)
cheers, juice

Yay, another Mexican! We should be easy to find - a big strange group of people with a LOT of cameras. Re gear, just bring whatever you want (whatever you are happy to carry), these gatherings are very informal :)

So, who wants to post their mobile number up???
