Little bit of fun tonight by the shore of Lake Bonney at Barmera..

Nice shot, the interaction and lighting of the tree works well, i would consider some clonage to remove those stray lights.

Did you light the tree with different gelled flashes? or torches? how many exposures and did you light the tree during each one?

I wish i lived somewhere there was level of darkness to try this out!

The tree was lit with a few different coloured torches, exposures were 4 minutes each except for the starting and finishing which were 20 seconds as I wanted the stars to be stationery for those. I had thought about cloning out the distant light of the towns but in the end I did not as on the full size image it helps give the image a sense of depth as opposed to a flat tree against a flat star trail. The tree was light for around 20 seconds during each of the four minute exposures and there were four of these.

nah leave those ones, they add to it, i was referring to teh wiggly torch light on the RHS and centre.

clever! it gives an interesting effect with the single star point at the start and finish of the trails - almost like morse code

I would also try and make the ground more brown on the right as well as getting bit of lit ground on the left side.

Stunning effect. I'm not sure I like the morse code thing with the stars, but that's probably just me.

Couldn't one just hold a dim light there for a long time during a longish exposure (20 minutes etc)?

I used a 3 watt LED torch and placed a coloured gel over it. It is really bright and has an adjustable focus so set it to pencil beam and waved it like crazy for 20 seconds in each of the four minute exposures. I am staying at Paringa at the moment with Marvin and Family. Barmera is about 40 km away so we drove there last night for a bit of a night shoot as there are plenty of these type of trees to chose from around the edge of Lake Bonney. Tomorrow night we shall try some orbs and stuff here in Paringa which is just over the river from Renmark. During the day I have been doing a bit of birding type shots and tomorrow hopefully going to an almond packaging company to do some industrial work.

Great stuff every shot has something a bit different, more in technique and your exploring your arty side really well
...and I'm just stuck at work this week - of cause I'm jealous
