This shot was taken one evening recently at Montmartre, Paris.

D300 24-70 @66mm f2.8 200sec iso400

It was shot at -.3 ev to ensure I did not blow any highlights but the exposure seems to have introduced some noise especially around the girls neck. I would appreciate some feedback on this as well as any other aspect of the shot.

Love the tones captured here and nice use of DOF as well to isolate both the girl and the artist.

This is a great shot, on a number of levels - it feels candid, the lighting is soft and nice and the composition/framing is just tight enough to engage the viewer with the woman and the painting.

But the thing I find must intriguing with the shot is the actual depiction of the woman by the painter seems to have some self indulgent additions, like the slightly larger pouting lips and the larger eyes and eyelashes. Classic stuff and you can tell this man has done this before, make sure you make them look a bit better on teh canvas!

The shots was taken whilst my wife and I were walking around the artists market watching the sketches take shape. I was looking for a shot that would convey the work, the atmosphere, the artist, the subject and the result. Getting the right angle was not proving easy but this one stood out in getting what I wanted.
Gerry, I see what you mean about the interpretation by the artist. But that is what art is about, both what the artist sees and what the viewer sees.
