I haven't posted many photos lately, so here are two panos that I have put together lately. The first one is a pano from the top of Nobbys in Newcastle. We were lucky to have the flickr Newcastle Sundance group gain access for a sunset shoot on the weekend. We didn't get much colours but still very nice to be up there. Pano is 8 images.



Next one is a vertical pano of the Milky Way that I took recently on a trip to Tonga. This was 4 images.

PTgui was used to stitch the images together and Capture NX2 to do some final work on them.

I do like that second image of the milky way, I am keen to do some stuff like this and I think this shot is tops.

The first image confuses me a bit, are the left and right sides of the image delibrately out of focus? It does give me a sensation of tunnel vision which is strangely attractive, for awhile anyway

The choice of BW is also a good one, adds a different slant on a very abused location

Despite the selective focus in the first, it really draws me in.....great stuff!

Upon a second look on the first image, there are quite obvious stitch lines in the clouds and more than one cloud 'looks' cloned, note i say looks, this could very well be the way the clouds were on the day!

I think using CS5 and the content aware fill would sort these issues out in a matter of minutes

That second image looks great

The first almost looks like you were using auto focus with a wide open aperture (was it quite dark at the time?) and it only achieved focus down the contrasty centre strip of land (and the distant city on the left and the close land on the right of middle) - the left and right sides of the image appear to be very out of focus. It's an interesting look if you did this on purpose but I don't think I like it.

Thanks for the comments, a few more details for the first pano:

I did do the selective focus, added a blur vignette. Idea behind that was that I wanted to just have the city and leading dunes in focus. The original is sharp throughout. Lens used was the 24-120 f4 at 79mm, f9.

Gerry, as for the clouds, that's the way they were, no cloning involved. As for the obvious stitch lines, not sure that I see those even looking at the original full size.

It was something different I was trying out in terms of the selective focus, thanks for the feedback. It was pretty monochromatic with the weather, so b&w was the way to go. Also, there was a southerly that had come up and was sort of blurring things naturally, hence I tried to show that with the treatment I used.

Hey Andre, 'obvious' was probably a bit indulgent however, below is a crop of the area that I am talking about, i am referring the the vertical join lines at roughly the left and right 3rd line and roughly in the middle of the image.

Not a problem at all, good to have these things pointed out now, so if I decide to print it later, then saves hassles. Stitching errors show up much more on the final print.

Both of them are very good. The first one will
be even better in larger size on a canvas on a
wall. The second is the winner, in my book.
