Hi all

Here are some pics that I took recently of family friend Jim and his brother who reunited after 50 years apart. Jim left the UK after WWII and they hadn't seen each other since, so their meeting up was pretty special. I really like the character in both their faces and the underlying mischief I think they both show.

I've PP'd them into B&W because I thought that suited the subjects better than colour. What do you guys think of these? I'd love some feedback please!

I take it that the second shot is a crop from the first... Is the first also a crop of a larger photo? If so and if possible, you might want to restore more of the right of the photo to balance it up...

Let me guess... Jim is the guy on the left in the photo???

Actually Jim is on the right and his brother (Vic) is on the left. And you are right, No 2 is a crop of No 1, and No 1 is a crop of another one, showing 1 other person. I'll do another version of Jim & Vic, giving Jim a little more room to his left and perhaps post later.

Hmmm John, just looked at the photo again and think you might be right. Did you mean Jim is the one not holding the hat ie: standing on to his brother's left, but looking at the photo, he's on the right? If so, then you are right. Vic is the one holding the hat anyway! And the solo photo is of Vic, then, of course.

No... actually I was wrong... trying to be too clever as usual...

The guy in the crop (whom I now know to be Vic), just looked more laid back and looked more likely to live in Australia... Maybe he's just a British eccentric instead...

Most importantly, what did they think of the photos?

Actually, they haven't seen them yet! After I've finished with them, I'll give copies to Jim, so he can send some on to Vic, who is now back in UK. BTW, in case you haven't picked it, I have completely changed the background, which actually was a brick house, with windows and venetian blinds! I thought a plain background was better. It took me a while in PS to do, especially around Vic's rather wild hair! How did I do? Did anyone notice?

Any other comments from anyone? I have never really been into Portraiture before but am venturing in, since I've started assisting in Weddings. So any comments and tips would be most welcome (I think- I hope so anyway! )

Would have loved to have seen pics of when they first met.

Apparently, they didn't recognise each other at first and nearly walked past each other! But I think there are some similarities between them.

Nikkofan - Black and white does seem very right for this special reunion picture. Maybe it's just because of their ages or how long ago it was when they last saw each other and photos were all B&W then.

Jim's image seems a little bit muddied on my monitor. It doesn't seem to bother the rest of the picture much though. I don't know how you did your conversion to black and white, but if you didn't use the channel mixer, that would probably give a superior result.

I'm sure the brothers will want to share that one with the family genealogist and lots of family members. It's great that you were there to capture the moment for them.
