OK, I don't know why my pics didn't consistently appear in my post last night, so here goes again...

Welcome Frankenstein, those are some great action shots.

Not bad Frank, good to see u had a good sunny day for it, was a bit dark in the pine forest last weekend when i did the rally here, but pics look good but yeh is it my eyes as i wear glasses and my old ones mind u are they a lil bit out of focus? I know its hard to get them right as i found out last week, but u did well.

Nice shots! Had to miss the cbr rally this year, due to moving house.

Frank, i also hate it when there is so must dust and u end up focussing on the dust cloud at times, but yes they are good i dont know if u seen a couple of mine but anyhow here is a couple.
I had to up my ISO to get a couple of these as it got very dark in the forest, the other photographer i was shaperoning used flash in every shot and i did try with onboard flash with this shot.



So Frank i know this is not an easy task at times but as was my first rally and well i was happy with the pics i took, over a 100.LOL

Thanks everyone for your kind words. It was my first go at a rally, and yes I agree some of them are a bit unsharp. I forgot to try continuous autofocus mode - I wonder if this would have helped? I guess I was too busy getting the camera back into the backpack after each shot - the dust was amazing!

Frank, Yes mate it would have helped some as i use this mode most of the time when shooting motorbikes. AF-C should be used with anything that moves. I have found that yeh getting a lens that will focus faster is the trick to these shots, but i think you did a great job on these pics as i too know what it is like now. But we learn from these so next time we will make it better, this is my moto try something if it dont work try something eles until you get it right.

Hi Frankenstein,
some great captures you've got of the rally.
I think it best to avoid shooting at high shutter speeds, if you take a look at bbj the wheels of most pics are blurred but if you get below a certain speed the car begins to distort if its not paraell to your camera like the his last pic but works well in other like the second last one.

Sometimes af mode get really confused in ceratin situations like dust cloud, burnouts or irrate moment from riders/cars. sometimes it best to use manual focus. i've been practice shoot in manaul focus generally in panning and turn shots

Redline - I did try some slower shutter speeds with panning, but they didn't quite come out...more practice needed. And I was aware that AF would be fooled by the cars coming at me, so for some of the shots I did switch to manual and pre-focussed on a spot.

Christiand - the shots were from Kowen South (in the morning) and Bluetts (midday). We (my son and I) also went to the track at Fairbairn, but didn't stay long. I drive an Impreza myself, so it was amazing to see so many other Subarus.
