I went to the Guide Dog Open Day yesterday, along with the other 11,000+ other people that decided to go as well and caught these nice snaps:

#3 does it for me. A classic portrait pose of a young, handsome, noble animal. (can you tell i love labs?)

2 and 4 are bloody good as well, btw.

It breaks my heart to see all those blind dogs.

Not only did he have 1 D2X (full on with 70-200VR & a TC - I think ??), he had a 2nd one hanging from his other shoulder with a shorter lens.

that's TWO D2X's.....how greedy can you get. I seriously contemplated stalking him on the way home !!!

I noticed him a couple of times looking in my direction when I was shooting, but I have a feeling he caught wind of my cheap@$$ Sigma glass and knew straight away I was only a rank amateur....

That's when you put the Sigma to good use and whack him over the head with it. Then run off with his gear, leaving yours behind. Hopefully when he wakes up he's that disorientated that he believes the gear that you've left behind is his.

Dave these shots are great, i love them all only cos we have a labrador x more Lab than Kelpie. So i think you did well.

Gotta agree with Gary on this one. #3 is a great shot!!
Nice and crisp, great pose and if you've ever tried to photo pups on the rampage, then you know that getting a shot like that one isnt particularly easy!

Speaking of blind dogs, Ive never been quite able to get over walking into a movie theatre and seeing a 'Guide Dogs, You Are Welcome Here' sign.

Unfortunately, I think I should have used the "spot metering" when taking photos of the black labs as they tended to underexpose. It's so obvious when you think about it, but when you're "in the moment" that's the time to remember, not afterwards. I guess that's what helps split the pro's from the amateurs.....

It's all a learning curve....

I admire the people who raise the pups and then let them go at 12 months, I could never part with an animal I got attached to...
