Oooh... I thought you were going to start complaining about Industrial Relations again there for a minute (IR Geddit!!!)

Is that really an Infra-Red shot Gerard??? It doesn't seem to have that pronounced white-leaf look of the IR shots I've seen so far and doesn't look that different to a B&W shot...

Locks / canals - must be somewhere on your recent European trip...

You are right on both counts.

I have a few tips after my recent IR experimentation

1. IR works best when direct sunlight shines directly onto the trees
2. Clouds and atmospheric effects like smog and fog are enhanced when using IR, but trees and grass don't have as much contrast.
3. White balance has got a lot to do with how much contrast you will get, i find if the white balance is set to 9000K+ you get a high contrast image

Thanks for the tips. In this case I only applied a filter to a normal image in PS. I do not think this will replace the real thing. Is your filter a 720nm?

I have a 52mm Hoya RM72 IR filter it's like AU$40 from ebay
I thought you used the real thing, very tricky
no wonder the image looks abit flat, try the filter on a very high contrast image of a sunlit scene with clouds in it, see how photoshop renders IR on that.
