Speedlight 800 or 600?It seems to be absolute beginners question.
I should tell that I don't have any experience with flash at all. Except that little camera built-in thing. So, now I want to learn and start to use it but I'm doubts. 600 seems to be cheaper, 800 more functional Any suggestions? Pros and Cons? Mikhail

Hilop, We have few threads talking about this topic in Equipment review section. If you can't find them I'll direct the link to you. My say is the SB-800. Birddog114

Thanks Birddog. I alredy have found it and red it through. Many good points about SB800 but almost nothing about SB600. Is it too bad? Mikhail

Hlop - perosnally I feel that the SB800 is the way to go as it has more versatility than the SB600 as a main flash.
That is not to say that the SB600 is not good - the SB600 is ideal for people not using flash very often (it’s cheaper) or for those who want slave flashes to the SB800, then the 600 is fine. Chris Chris

The 800 offers far more flexibility and versatility than the 600, which is intended to be primarily used as a slave flash off the 800.
IOW, get the 800 first, then perhaps get a 600 or 2. OTOH, with the prices from HK supplies, the saving between the two units is a mere $80 or so, which really makes one wonder why one should buy a 600 at all. g.

Do you know what the current prices are? I just checked http://www.hksupplies.com and didn't find neither sb600 or sb800 Mikhail

I have to say 800. I debated for about a month before I realized, I can always downgrade cheaper han I can upgrade. I was amazed with the SB800 when it arrived, all the little extra goodies and such!!!! The first pic I took made me realize I had made the right decision. I say spend a few bucks more and get the 800. I bought from Beach camera, buydig.com for US$299 with Nikon $50 rebate. US$249 delivered, Same price as I could find the 600 at the time as well.

Even discounting the power output and functional differences, the extra accessories you get with the 800 makes it worth the extra cost over the 600. The diffuser, coloured gel packs for tungsten and fluorescent lights, fifth cell optional attachment and the nylon case.
