Upcoming Events - Sydney

Postby gstark on Mon May 17, 2010 12:55 pm

Vivid Sydney Saturday June 5
First up, we have the Vivid Sydney event, that will occur on Saturday June 5. This takes in the light show along Macquarie Street and at the Opera House

Glebe Tram Sheds Saturday June 12
The June 2x2 event will be happening on Saturday June 12, despite that weekend being a long weekend. We are going to pay a visit to the Glebe Tram Sheds, which were featured recently in this thread.

I'm also hoping to plan a minimeet on maybe June 26, hopefully at the home of a member, or failing that, we shall find somewhere to park ourselves for a few hours.

And I'm wanting to hold a couple of workshops too. We are not doing enough of the educational and fun stuff that we all enjoy so much, so let's all collectively pull our fingers out.

For now, please indicate your interest in the Glebe Tram Sheds visit within this thread.

And Cameron, I have a calculator for you.

I haven't made plans to visit Sydney, but I if I visit during the long weekend, I will attend.

I wonder whether you guys should take a few models if possible. This looks like strobist/lightpainters heaven. [even without models] Although it would probably be dangerous to go at night.

I was smiling when I saw this but decided not to make fun of Marcus until I have made fun of him in person. Afterall he didn't understand my joke about his model being 'untouched'

This location would suit hip hop, music sort of edgy portraiture as well as the dark moods with a bit of goth etc.

ok... getting on topic :chook:

I will certainly be interested in doing vivid if can make it the Saturday night.
The tram sheds would also be of interest if we can coordinate some lighting gear along, and a model or so, would also add to the exercise, as has already been mooted.

Time I got a little more involved... it's been quite awhile for a whole bunch of reasons... :violin:

I'd love to get down to the Tram sheds but I don't think I'll be able. I am doing a course at the moment with the ACP on Saturdays and that is the day of our last shoot. Looking forward to the results and hearing about your success with access!

Re the tram sheds... we need to be aware that on the weekends the place is very much locked up... I skimmed past there last weekend and whilst there were people there, inside, photographing, getting in was both tricky, muddy and I'm guessing not legal... Having said that I does look worthwhile if we can get access but I don't fancy attempting to get lighting gear, models, MUA's etc etc down the narrow barb wire protected side passage. :nono:

:biglaugh:

yep, that is correct, there is only one way in and out (if you dont count that big gap in the upper portion of the front door - or the large gaps in the roof) if the place is locked up. Lets just say, ya gonna get wet and muddy feet, ya gonna be climbing thru an opening (i did not say that btw) and you ain't gonna get an sane model in there - that way anyway.

So onto the good news, its pretty damn awesome in there, the light in the late avro is very nice, it gets very nice filtered light thru the windows in the roof - I can just see the model, decked out in a tram attendant or driver outfit perched on any one of the disturbingly derelict trams or walking down the 'side paths, it would create such a great contrast between the utter derelict-ness and the model, the possibilities are endless...

The options for light painting are also endless, but without something more substantial then my tripod, i ain't hanging around after dark... :cough:

a couple of panos to give you an idea of whats inside..

and you can always put down the road and pickup a few shots of the anzac bridge too.

Looks good Gerry... the other post as well... as mentioned access is a problem... I scouted around a couple of weeks ago but had in mind getting some lighting, models, mua and and associated gear inside which just isn't going to happen without entry at the front somehow. Sliding down the side with mud and barbed wire and then clambering over a broken window access is not usually what models sign up for!

If we can work out a better way to get access I would certainly be interested in a shoot there.

Oops, Didn't know that. Looking through flickr, there are several hundred glebe tramshed images.

It seems like people don't want this place to be developed. So maybe it will be several (tens) of years before something will be done.

Shame this turned into a meet of one! If I wasn't unleashing my inner gear head on a course over at Sun Studios believe me I'd have been there. There is just something really cool about using $25k of gear as a single light source...

Nice images, and looks like I'm going to have to find me an adventurous model and some days off during the week - though maybe when it starts to warm up again!

I have had this in mind for some time now - I have a concept idea that I would liek to try out here, its a place where you have lots of space and somethign out of the ordinary which can be used for a number of different themes. I just need to find the time to get there during the week.

I actually have next week off, but a bit soon to be sorting out all the finer points of a full shoot. Might try and sneak in there and work out a concept/location for something in the future though.
