I had a quick perve using the iPad yesterday, and there is definitely an issue with how it handles one class of visual element within the whole framework here. It seems to be the widget frames are not respecting the overall width of the browser, and you can see something similar if you set your viewport to the bottom of the page, and then drag the rh browser frame towards the left.

I do think it's a framework problem, and so I will refer this back to the portal developer for comment.

I just checked. While my cropping problems seem to have gone away, the log in issue with www. is still there.
I also noticed my other machine which has not had any problems does NOT use the www log in.

And that's the setting I'd recommend. dslrusers.com. No "www", and not the .net site. That's how the cookie settings are configured, and that's probably what's best, for now.

Greg,

Thanks.

I don;t actually elect get any such notifications, so I can only speculate, but it would be my guess that in those two examples, we're seeing notifications based upon posts made by members logging in using those particular URLs. ie, one person used dslrusers.com, and another used www.dslrusers.com.

Let me do some research and see what else I can find out. I'm wondering if I may be able to do something within the vhosts configuration within apache ....

Yes. That was exactly what we determined some time back with the .com and .net issues. And which is why I never click on the links in the emails. I just get the notifications to remind me there's some updates and I use "View new posts" to view the updates.

I had settled on a different method for dealing with .net issues. I clicked the link, then simply changed .net to .com in the address bar. Worked fine.
It doesn't work for the www. issue though. If I click on that link the system actually logs me out on dslrusers, then reverts to www. as soon as I have logged in, which in turn logs me out again.

I guess I will have to break the old dog rule again and switch to your method.

Is there any resolution to the ipad/iphone cropping issue? On the iphone, viewing the forum becomes a nugatory exercise.

Excuse my ignorance Patrick but does nugatory have any reference to bugging bollocks :biglaugh:

The only issues I am seeing at this point are as follows:

1) page numbering is a bit messed up, ie this thread on teh recent topics has 11 pages, but when you get into the thread there is only 3 pages.

2) Recent topics has only 10 entries, i preferred the old way with 20+ entries.

3) I reckon 50 posts per page, is that what it was before?

4) background colour is temperamental.. :wink:

I am loving teh fluid width - nicely done.

I can tell from my notification that you are going in through http://www.dslrusers.com. (I get perpetual longin requests when I click on the advice link without checking it.) If you go in through http:\\dslrusers.com you will have a much better experience.

I can only assume, therefore, that:

1. Nobody views this site on their iphone or ipad;
2. Or, those who do are not seeing the right hand side cropping issue;
3. The solution was posted above and I missed it.

Thoughts?

Patrick, I see the issue on my iPad, but to my knowledge, there's no cure for this as yet.

Something else I just noticed is that unlike other message lists Recent Topics shows only 10 items to a page which for those who don't look in the lower right corner to see there's a page 2, 3 etc could lead you to believe that's the entire list. Can the list be made longer eg 25 or so?

Just a follow-up: is this forum still inoperable on the iphone and, to a lesser extent, ipad due to the cropping issue?

I experience severe cropping issues on my Android Tablet (7") and also my mobile phone. With images, I experience cropping on smaller screens (PC) and if I dont have my window wide enough.

I used to experience severe cropping issues too, especially in the 50s, but I have since discovered that the easiest solution is just to stay away from barbers.

Sadly, this is an issue in the skins that the portal uses.

I'm looking to bring the forum up to 3.0.11 (I think) in the next week or so, and as I do that, I will see if the problem persists, and if so, see if I can get some support from the portal authors.

any chance of getting more than the standard 10 posts per page on the recent topics page? I much preferred the old config which had 20, i think 30 would be a good number. Saves trawling thru pages to see the most recent posts.
