Sony A900 24mp Dslr

Unless they get too big for themselves, this is where you can talk about the "other" brands of DSLR's: Konica Minolta / Sony, Pentax / Samsung, Olympus, Horseman, etc.

body to grip integration looks very dodgy.... you'd think their top of the range model would be a one body/grip product.

The ergonomics of a camera are a very important aspect of design, especially for professional use. Sony appears to have employed Master Designer Do Nt Gi Ve a Sh iT. 8)

I agree, but I think Sony have signalled their intention to be a real player in the DSLR market. Whether they do or not remains to be seen.

I thought master chong was a good joke already...

And I always thought Sony would be number 3 in the DSLR market in 2008, but with the looks of that camera, and especially with this photo:
Image

I don't they will be getting the number 3 spot. I mean, look at where the "Fn" button is located!?!? Who can reach that freaking thing anyway!?

Not to mention the awkard position of the direcitonal pad on the grip, I can't see my thumb being able to bend like that...

The CCD/CMOS is totally wasted in that thing. Sony should stick to Playstations.

Anyone got any of these Sony's? I have found that sony products in general esp walkmans have great battery lives compared to others. Is this true for cameras?

Wow. Despite this looking like an absolute heap of trash wrapped in barb wire and then left to rot in the carcass of a battered Easter Bunny, I'll try to get one in.

Sony's PR company have said I can if I want but first I'll need to finish my D300 review...

Thats the exact same setup, if not the A700 itself with the vertical grip.

I have not tried the verticle grip and dont really need it, but the A700 is very nice to use. After several reviews and already owning a 50mm f1.4 lens I decided to get the A700 and it does seem very well built.

As for the quality, it best I dont comment given I am trying to work out if I have an issue right now......

Cheers
Mike

i think we're being a bit harsh on sony here just cos it's fun to do so. lol anyway, the a700 looks like a peach of a camera and its performance is equal or slightly better than the 40d from what i've read. i havent heard many, (if any), negative reports. the stronger sony gets the better off we will all be, so i personally hope the a700/ 900 are winners.

competition is a beautiful thing.

I have no problem with the camera, the A700 is a very good camera and the new 350 and such but the grip is just poor design...

Um... thats a battery grip's FN button... the one on the camera is covered by the hand...;;;;;

Yes, there's a Fn button on the battery grip, but there's also one on the body, by the lower rh corner of the LCD. Ergonomics would not be one of this camera's strong points.

Hell, this camera is so ugly, it makes me look handsome!

Epic 12mth old post drag up... Well done.

I went on a weekend with Darren Leal last weekend, he shoots with the A900. He seemed very happy with the setup after swapping from Canon..

Tony,

If you're referring to my comment, I'm talking about the person who resurrected the thread, and then deleted their message.

Otherwise, I'm not sure what you mean.

I was wondering if that might be what you meant.

I can only offer a couple of observations on that for you ...

There's only two people on this forum who could change the poster, from within phpbb. They would be Leigh and myself. I know of no reason why either of us would want to do this.

I could also change the poster, natively, directly within the SQL. I've not done that.

If, somehow, the database became corrupted, then perhaps it might then post to the user ID of a different member. But the IP from which the post was made would be unlikely to be affected ... save for a total corruption of the database, in which case we would have experienced some system downtime to recover the database. We've moved servers, but not, to my knowledge, experienced corruption.

And the source IP for the OP is consistent with the source IP for your most recent posting, which suggests to me that all would appear to be ok.

Sorry.
