Expectant Granddad

Postby gstark on Mon Jul 03, 2017 8:44 am

Hi all y'all,

Just for those who know him, Sycamore #1, Leigh, and his lovely wife Nic, are about to become parents for the first time, which makes me a soon-to-be first time proud grand dad. Bub is due any day now.

But amongst his daytime jobs, he runs his own technology website, and posted this article last week.

I think it's a truly great article, and thought that some of you here might be interested to see it.

Preliminary and advance congrats. Grandfatherhood is awesome. We welcomed our 5th (and first girl) into the family a few weeks ago. I'm wearing out cameras at an alarming rate. Of course, with her grandpa's genetics of good looks, why wouldn't anyone want to photograph/video her? :biglaugh:

Congratulations, grandad. Someone said that being a grandparent because you get to have all the fun and no responsibility. By the way, programming has never been my thing, but it is a very interesting article.

Thanks all for your kind words.

And please welcome Emma Jane into the world. Born yesterday morning.

Leigh informs me that she is already camera aware.

Thanks again for your kind words.

Mum and bub are doing very well, thank you.

So are dad and granddad. :rotfl2:

Last evening I got to meet my one day old granddaughter, and what a wonderful and wonderous experience. I didn't think this was possible, but it's like being a new dad all over again, except better. This is truly the circle of life, and the miracle that is humanity.

Please forgive my indulgences here ... :)

Congrats to Leigh, Nic, Grandfather and of course little Em. As I mentioned before, we welcomed our first grand-daughter into the world a few weeks ago. We have 4 grand grand-sons, but there's something special about a little girl.

I love that second photo. The contrast between the subjects and the tenderness to the baby - and yes congratulations to all and happy to learn all is well.

And there will be more photos. In due course.

In the fullness of time, as Sir Humphrey might say.

I've met her just twice so far, but I am now safely ensconced in Glyfada where the delightful Miss De De and I are attending a wedding tomorrow. This is shaping up to be the full big fat Greek wedding, and festivities kick off later today with the two families enjoying a big fat Greek feast.

I'm just taking things easily; we've just finished a big fa=t Greek breakfast, and we're lazing around the pool now where I'm about to enjoy a big fat Cuban cigar along with a big fat Greek sparkling water. :)

Thanks, Gerry, and mostly yes.

There's been a couple of health issues in the last year or so, one potentially serious, the others merely mobility related, but one of those actually does impact my photography, in that it makes holding and using a camera somewhat painful. Amongst other activities.

So last night's dinner didn't start till 9, and everyone else was still going strong until we retired, hurt, at about 1. Food? Plenty of it, and it's bloody good.

De is out with her daughter today, looking to get their hair done for the actual ceremony tonight, which is at 7; reception at 9, and not scheduled to finish until 5am tomorrow! That's one hell of a party.

And to give you some idea of what's actually happening, last night's affair was for the two families to meet each other, and I'm actually considered family because of De's connection to the bride, and I've been made to feel very welcome. There were about 180 in attendance, most of whom have traveled here from Straya for the wedding.

In all honesty, my family is actually very small, and this sort of large and extended family is not something I've really had a chance to experience before. I'm enjoying every moment of it, and couple that with Emma Jane's birth, plus a few other good things that have been happening around me ... I am enjoying what I have.
